This summer, Patchouli caught up with Gai Barone at Balance Festival in Croatia for a conversation away from the dancefloor.
Balance has become a special meeting point for the deeper and more progressive side of electronic music, bringing together artists and listeners from around the world in one of the most distinctive settings on the Adriatic coast.
Among this year's artists was Gai Barone, a name that has been closely connected to progressive electronic music for more than two decades.
Between sets, music and a few days on the Croatian coast, Leonid K sat down with Gai for Patchouli to talk about music, his journey and the world around it.
Rather than another quick festival interview, we wanted to keep the conversation simple and personal: two people who care deeply about music, sitting down together and talking.

Following his appearance at Balance Festival, Gai Barone comes to London on 11 September to headline ELYSIUM 2026, our annual Patchouli Deep gathering at Basing House.
It will be a rare opportunity to hear Gai in an intimate London setting, alongside artists and residents from across the Patchouli community.
