Guan No.9 – Charcoal-Baked Tie Guan Yin
Guan No.9 is a modern expression of the legendary Tie Guan Yin, crafted from the Huang Dan cultivar and baked for over nine hours over Longan wood charcoal. The result is a tea that’s rich, smooth, and deeply aromatic — a perfect balance of roasted warmth and floral elegance.
The Huang Dan plant is an early spring cultivar, its young leaves harvested in early April for maximum freshness and sweetness. Compared to the classic Guan Yin variety, it offers a gentler finish and a more pronounced honey-orchid aroma. The charcoal baking process, a time-honoured Fujian technique, adds layers of complexity and an extended, lingering aftertaste.
While often mistaken for a traditional “Chuan Tong” Tie Guan Yin, this tea represents a modern style — less oxidised, more fragrant, and roasted to highlight its caramelised, nutty depth. It sits beautifully between the roasted Taiwanese Oolongs and Wuyi Rock teas, yet remains uniquely its own.
Full-bodied, soothing, and irresistibly smooth — Guan No.9 is a masterclass in controlled fire and modern craftsmanship.
